Concrete Floor Stripping & Removal in Eastern Goleta Valley CA - ready for a new coat
Old coating peeling, lifting or flaking? We take it down to bare concrete so the next floor has something to hold onto.

Does your old floor coating have to come off?
Concrete floor stripping and removal in Eastern Goleta Valley means taking an old coating off the slab, by grinding or scraping, until it's bare concrete again, so a new floor bonds to the concrete and not to whatever was failing before.
Usually you've noticed the coat peeling where the tires sit, lifting at the edges or coming up in flakes, and you're wondering if the whole thing has to go. What moves the price is the size of the floor, how thick and how well stuck the old coating is, and whether it needs testing before anyone grinds it, and the schedule turns on that testing and on what goes down next. Most of the real work is concrete grinding and surface preparation, so I write all of it into the estimate, with what the floor needs and how long the space will be off limits.
How we handle concrete floor stripping and removal
I start by looking at how much of the coating is still holding, because sometimes a floor needs a patch, not a full strip, and I'll tell you which. If the coating might have lead or asbestos in it, we stop right there and get it tested before anyone grinds. Once that's clear, our crew takes the old coat down to bare concrete, cleans up the edges and leaves the slab clean. Concrete doesn't care how good the new coat is if the old one is still sitting on it.
Most people strip a floor because something new is going on it. In homes that's usually epoxy floor coatings, and in shops and warehouses it's commercial and industrial epoxy floor coatings, where the floor has to get back to work. Either way, the bare slab still has to pass a moisture test before any coating goes back, and I'll tell you when that happens.
Stripping and recoating floors in Eastern Goleta Valley
Eastern Goleta Valley is under Santa Barbara County, and the county's list of work that needs no building permit includes interior floor finishes. Whether your strip falls under that is the county's call, not mine, so we check with them before we schedule, and if your job needs a permit, we pull it and fit the inspection into the plan. If your house is in a high fire hazard area, the county recommends fire resistant floor finishes there, so ask me about those when we talk about what goes down after the strip.
California requires a dust reduction system on powered tools that grind concrete, so our grinders run with one, because grinding throws off silica dust you don't want to breathe. Most of our stripping calls are garages and basements with a coat that's let go, and we see the same thing on jobs in Goleta and Santa Barbara.
How floor stripping works
Call or send the form
You call (805) 335-8374 or send the form, and we get back to you to set a time. A rough floor size and a couple of photos of the peeling help me come out ready.
I look at the slab
I come out, check how well the coating is holding and write an estimate that says what the floor needs and how long the space is off limits. You have it in writing before anyone touches the floor, so there's no guessing about the job.
Our crew strips the floor
Our crew preps the concrete and takes the coating off down to bare slab. If testing is needed, it happens before this day, not in the middle of it.
We walk the floor together
When the slab is bare and clean, we walk it with you and show you anything we found under the old coat. If a new coating is next, you'll know when it can go down.

Get a written estimate to strip and recoat your floor
You'll hear back within one business day, and the on-site estimate is free with no obligation. After you send this, we set a time, I come out and walk the floor, and I write down what it needs and how long the space will be off limits.
Questions before you strip a concrete floor
Do I need to strip my whole garage floor or can it be patched?
If 90% of the floor is still bonded and solid, a spot repair is usually the job, and a full strip fits when the bond has failed across the floor. A coat failing in one corner is often a smaller project than it looks, which is why I check how much is holding before anyone talks about a strip.
Can a new epoxy coating go over my old one?
Sometimes it can, if the old coating is sound, clean and scuffed up so the new coat can grip. If it's peeling or lifting anywhere, that part has to come off first, because a new coat only holds as well as whatever is under it.
What is the best way to remove an epoxy coating from a garage floor?
The usual advice for a standard two- or three-car garage is diamond grinding, with a gel stripper saved for small areas, edges and thin coats. The stripper softens the coating so it scrapes off in corners a grinder can't reach, but on a thick or well-bonded coat it usually won't clear the floor alone, so the job finishes with the grinder anyway.
How much does it cost to remove a coating from a concrete floor in Eastern Goleta Valley?
Flooring removal across the US usually runs about $2.50 to $4.40 per square foot, which is a national figure for taking an old floor off, not a local quote or our price. Where yours lands depends on the size of the floor and how stubborn the old coat is, and the on-site estimate is where your own figure comes from.
How do I know if my old floor coating has lead or asbestos?
Only a test by someone qualified tells you, and it belongs before anyone grinds or blasts the floor. One coating maker's guide says that when a coating may contain lead, asbestos or another hazardous material, work stops for testing and any cleanup it calls for, so book the test before you set a removal date. If your house was built before 1978, the EPA's lead-safe renovation guide is worth reading before work starts.
What causes an epoxy garage floor to peel?
Usually the bond at the bottom gives out, not the top wearing through, because the concrete wasn't prepped well enough or moisture was coming up through the slab. Most floors that fail, fail at the bottom, which is why the bare slab gets its moisture test before anything new goes on.
Why Eastern Goleta Valley homeowners call Eastern Goleta Valley Epoxy Flooring to strip a floor
The owner writes your estimate
I come out to look at every job myself and write the estimate, and our own crew does the work. You're not handed off to someone who's never run a grinder.
Doing floor prep since 2021
We opened in 2021, and I learned the floor work on other people's crews before that. Years of running a schedule taught me most jobs go wrong before anyone picks up a tool, so the planning gets as much attention as the grinding.
We're fully licensed and insured
Grinding a coating off is heavy, loud work inside your house. You want the crew doing it to carry its own coverage, not leave that to you.
We check whose rules apply
Addresses around here answer to the County, a city or the campus, depending on where the house sits. We find out which one is yours before your date goes on the calendar.
If your floor is peeling and you'd like to know what it really needs, ask for an estimate and I'll come look at the slab.
Work that usually follows a strip
Epoxy Floor Coatings
Once the old coat is off, the bare slab is ready for a new epoxy coat, which gives a garage or basement a floor that wipes clean.
Commercial & Industrial Epoxy Floor Coatings
For a shop, warehouse or other working floor, an industrial-grade system goes down after the strip, planned so the space reopens as soon as the cure allows.
Book your floor strip and recoat estimate
Call (805) 335-8374 or use the form with the floor size, a few photos of the peeling and the year your house was built, because the build year tells me whether testing comes first.
