Self-Leveling Concrete & Overlays in Eastern Goleta Valley CA - a floor that sits flat
Dips and humps showing through your floor? We pour a smooth, level layer ready for new flooring or finished as the floor itself.

Do I need self-leveling concrete or just new flooring?
Self-leveling concrete and overlays are a cement-based layer we pour over an uneven slab in Eastern Goleta Valley homes so it comes out flat, smooth and strong, either as a base for new flooring or as the finished floor you walk on.
You're usually here because new flooring won't sit right, a garage or basement slab has dips and humps, or you want a smooth concrete floor without tearing everything out. The price moves with the square footage, how far out of level the slab is, how much concrete grinding and surface preparation it needs first, and whether the layer is a base or the finished floor. The schedule turns on that prep and on the product's cure time, and my estimate spells out both, including how long the room is off limits.
How we handle self-leveling concrete and overlays
First I decide what the layer is for, because we pick the product for where it's going, inside or out, under another floor or as the floor you walk on, and they aren't interchangeable. Then the old flooring comes up, and if there's old glue under it, we get it tested before anyone sands it, since one maker advises testing old cutback adhesive, a black floor glue, for asbestos and not sanding any that has it. Once the slab is clean, we grind it down to sound concrete, deal with the cracks and joints, prime and pour. We keep everyone out of the room while we mix because one leveler's data sheet warns its silica dust can cause serious lung problems, and that's not a risk worth taking for a flat floor.
Two jobs often come before or beside this one. When tile, vinyl or a worn coating has to come up first, that's concrete floor stripping and removal, and outside, a tired deck usually wants pool deck coatings and resurfacing rather than an indoor leveler.
Floor leveling and sealing in Eastern Goleta Valley
Eastern Goleta Valley isn't a city. It's unincorporated Santa Barbara County, so your house deals with the County, not a city hall. The rule that touches this job comes from the county's air pollution control district, which covers anyone who applies a coating here and counts sealers and stains as coatings. So when a leveled floor gets a sealer or stain on top, that part of the job falls under the district's rule, and we pick the product with it in mind.
Most of our leveling calls are garages, basements and rooms where old vinyl or tile came up and left dips, patches and glue behind. We see the same floors on jobs in Goleta and Santa Barbara, and every one of them starts with a hard look at the concrete.
How a self-leveling job goes
Call or send the form
Call (805) 335-8374 or send the form with the room size and what's on the floor now. We call back to set a time for me to come look.
I check the slab myself
I measure how far out of level it is, look for cracks that move and ask about any old glue. The written estimate says what the floor needs, what it costs and how long the room will be off limits.
Our crew preps and pours
Our crew takes the slab down to sound concrete, handles the cracks and pours the layer. You'll know ahead of time when the room opens back up, because the product we chose sets that.
Walk the finished floor together
We walk the floor with you before we leave and point out anything still curing. If new flooring or a coating goes on next, you'll know when it can start.

Get a written plan for leveling and prepping your floor
We get back to you within one business day to set a time. I come out, check the slab and write a free on-site estimate that says what the floor needs and how long the room is off limits. There's no obligation to go ahead.
Questions before you book self-leveling concrete
How much does self-leveling concrete cost per square foot?
Across the US, leveling a concrete floor with self-leveling compound usually costs about $4.50 to $7 per square foot installed. That's what the work tends to run in the market, not our price, and a slab that's far out of level or still has old flooring on it lands higher. My estimate gives you the number for your floor.
Can self-leveling concrete go outdoors on a patio?
Some can and some can't, so it comes down to the product. One maker says its self-leveling underlayments are for interior use only, while some cement toppings are made for inside and out and can even be polished to a high gloss. For a patio we use a topping made for outdoor use, and one maker notes a polished topping won't come out completely uniform, so expect some variation in the look.
Will cracks in my concrete slab show through self-leveling?
They can, if the cracks are still moving. A moving joint or crack in the slab below can carry up through a self-leveling layer and crack the new flooring on top, so I check for movement before we pour anything. Concrete doesn't stop moving just because you covered it.
How long does self-leveling concrete take before I can walk on it?
With one maker's resurfacer, you can walk on it in 2 to 4 hours, and finished flooring may go down in 24 hours, both depending on conditions. Other products run on their own clocks, so your estimate names the product and how long the room is off limits.
What is the best way to seal a self-leveling concrete floor?
Usually with a protective coating, put on once the topping is ready for it, which can be soon after the pour. One topping is ready for coatings in 12 hours. Sealers fall under the county coating rule covered above, so we choose ours with that in mind.
What should I ask a contractor before a self-leveling job in Santa Barbara County?
Ask which product they plan to use, because indoor or outdoor use, timing and finish change from one product to the next. Then ask how they'll check for moving cracks and old glue before they start. The answers tell you whether they looked at your slab or just measured the room.

Based in Eastern Goleta Valley
We opened in 2021 and work out of Eastern Goleta Valley and the cities around it, from Carpinteria to Buellton. We already plan finishes around the County air district's coating rule, so the sealer isn't a last-minute question on your job.
On this job, the slab under the layer decides how the floor holds up, so that's what I look at first. Ask for an estimate and I'll come out and check yours.
Work that goes with floor leveling
Concrete Floor Stripping & Removal
If carpet glue, tile or a peeling coating is still stuck to the slab, stripping it clean comes first so the leveler bonds to concrete.
Pool Deck Coatings & Resurfacing
A pool deck that's cracked, slick or rough underfoot needs a surface built for sun, water and bare feet, not an indoor leveling product.
